Gillman Speedway
| The 2006 Classic Speedway meeting was
held on
Saturday Night, 21st October 2006 and included several
highlights. They were: |

A demonstration ride by Ivan Mauger at

| The tribute to
Kym
Bonython was a presentation of a trophy which was presented to him by Glen
Dix for Kym's services to Speedway in South Australia.
There were some
"Special Guests" that were
invited for the occasion and they were: |

Ivan Mauger, OBE MBE
- 6 times World Individual Speedway Champion, 3 times World Individual
Long Track Champion, New Zealand ports Hall of Fame Inductee & Voted as
the Greatest Speedway Rider of the 20th Century. |
|
|
Nigel Boocock
- Captain of the British Speedway Test Team, Captain
of the Coventry Bees Team and from 1959 to 1976 rode 748 matches averaging
9.37 points per match out of a possible 12 for the Bees. |
|
|
Bill Wigzell -
3 times Australian Super Modified Champion, 2 times South Australian Super
Modified Champion, 3 times Australian Sprintcar Champion plus numerous
other titles. |
|
|
John Boulger -
2 times Australian Solo Champion, numerous South Australian Solo Champion
and other titles. |

| In an effort to promote
Solo Speedway racing in South Australia, the Speedway Riders Association
have built a Junior Track inside of their track.
The track was officially opened by Kym
Bonython and then a display was given by 4 Junior riders. |

| Due to the tribute to Kym Bonython and their
involvement with each other in the early 1960's, Ivan could not refuse the
invitation to attend the meeting. As a result of his attendance he gave a
demonstration ride on Aaron Summers bike. At 67 years old, it could be
seen that he had not lost his "touch" in riding a solo speedway bike. |

| At Rowley Park, the
first event for the Three Quarter Speedcars (TQ's) was the Best Turned out
Car & Crew sponsored by "Burns for Blinds". The first event for the TQ's
at Gillman was again conducted with the winner being Ash Kindred - NSW 13. |
