"Rex Sendy" Rex Sendy, a well known South Australian Speedcar driver of the "Rowley Park" era, passed away at home on January 26th 2006 at the age of 84. Rex joined the "Racing Drivers' Association" (RDA) in October 1951 and had his first drive of a Ford powered midget on the 11th January 1952. During the Season of 1954/55, he was at the wheel of the Alf Shields Ford A No. 12, winning numerous races, including the "Johnny Dark Trophy", where he was the runner up in the 12 lap SA Derby to Arn Sunstrom and also taking out the "Clisby Trophy" for the highest points scorer. Alf and himself headed interstate where he was unlucky to win the Queensland Title after blowing an engine while in the lead with 4 laps remaining. Rex also drove the Reg Baker No. 56 Special on several occasions before he retired. He was part of a syndicate with Kevin Fischer, Cec Eichler and Ray Skipper when they took over the running of "Rowley Park" in the 1973/74 Season. He will never be forgotten as one of the great "Rowley Park Speedway Speedcar Driver's". |
